Barbara Beckmann, a versatile textile designer and accomplished colorist, defines luxury in the exclusive niche of hand-painted/printed fabrics. Her unusual abstract and distinctive floral patterns, Far-East inspired designs, fanciful sea creatures, exotic butterflies and imaginative organic forms are trendsetters recognized coast to coast.

Barbara Beckmann Designs (BBD) is best known for exceptional silks, hand-woven in Italy, Thailand, India, and China. In addition, the company sources other fine groundcloths including linen, cotton, wool, velvet, wovens, and acrylic (solution dyed for use indoor or outdoor). When designers work with BBD, they have access to an extensive portfolio of designs, with many capabilities for customization . Any hand-painted or printed design can be modified in terms of color palette, groundcloth, or configuration. In terms of color, and evocative of the BBD line, groundbreaking and experimental effects for dyeing/painting fabric result in unusual depth, color luminosity, and subtle variations in shade and line. These effects cannot be duplicated by any other process, and when allowed to dry in a naturally lit facility on tables 66 feet in length, produce a fabric unlike any other. For 23 years, BBD has developed and refined hand-painting/printing techniques for fabric. The Napa, California factory is home to production, development and administrative departments. Located in wine country, nestled among rolling hills and vineyards, the factory provides inspiration within an immense sunlit space.

BBD is represented in 13 showrooms nationwide, most recently welcomed in New York. Abroad, BBD is represented in Singapore. BBD has provided fabrics to an astonishing array of textile markets ranging from contract hospitality, outdoor, high-end residential, exclusive home furnishings, restaurants, spas, resorts and yachts. A new direction for the company is licensing of archival designs, from a collection of over 1000 patterns, to various corporations.
